4.07.14: Rolf Harris referred to Attorney General's Office under "unduly lenient sentence scheme"
Following his convictions on all counts - 12 indecent assault charges on 4 girls including one aged just 7 or 8, Mr Justice Sweeney when sentencing today said Harris showed "no remorse", and had taken advantage of his celebrity status. Harris was sentenced to almost 6 years. He was told he was likely to serve half his prison term, and pay compensation to his victims.
However one of his victims felt that the sentence term was "immaterial" ? the verdict was "what she wanted, what she went to court for".
With more alleged victims coming forward since the convictions, Tracey Emmott, lawyer at Emmott Snell Solicitors, an expert on child abuse cases who also represented children from the Haut de la Garenne children's home in Jersey said "The victims have described the profoundly damaging effects Harris's assaults have had on them. I echo one of the victim's call for more women to come forward, 'celebrity or not'. Indeed no one should be inhibited from wanting to pursue justice".
